Part Time/Full Time Bench Tech Needed

We are currently looking for a computer technician to join our team. This person will primarily be a bench technician and may eventually provide residential on-site services depending on various factors. Outstanding candidates with an interest in business services may have the chance to move up to assist with our business support services.

-Open and/or Close the store

-Answer phones and take messages
-Answer questions in person and on the phone
-Sales of new computers
-Sales of companion accessories or services
-New Computer builds
-Desktop/Laptop hardware and software upgrades
-Accurately quoting costs and timeframes to customers
-In charge of the bench area and related tools and parts
-Must keep accurate notes of work done and track of work progress toward quoted completion
-Must use cash register and credit card machine in order to charge customers for work done
-Keeping store and work area clean
-MAY Provide remote support to clients
-MAY Provide on-site services to residential clients

-Must be at least 18 years of age

-Valid Driver’s License
-Reliable Transportation
-Valid Auto Insurance
-Must be able to pass a complete criminal background check including fingerprint analysis
-Must be able to lift a minimum of 50 pounds unassisted
-Must be able to sit and/or stand for long periods of time depending on various factors
-Must be able to crawl under desks, use ladders and carry awkwardly shaped or weighted items under various circumstances and in various environments
-Excellent Customer Service Skills
-Excellent written and oral communication skills
-Excellent grammar and experience writing and speaking using technical language
-Must be fluent in the English language
-Ability to explain complex technical concepts to end users with little to no computer literacy WITHOUT a condescending attitude, impatience, or rudeness of any kind
-Ability to work unsupervised for periods of time
-Ability to find solutions to computer related issues without direction
-Proven Ability to Multi-Task
-Ability to efficiently manage time
-Ability to change course of action when issues or troubleshooting dictate such changes
-Ability to answer phone and take accurate and detailed messages
-Ability to triage phone calls based on client status, issue severity, and other factors in order to allow all calls to be handled properly and in a timely manner
-Must keep client data confidential at all times and follow all procedures related to disposal/destruction of equipment left in our care
-Must represent the company in a highly professional manner at all times

 Ideal Candidates Will:
-Possess a willingness to keep up with the latest hardware and software technology trends
-Be goal oriented individuals who will constantly undergo continuing education
-Be open to the possibility of assisting with new process creation and tweaking/testing current processes

 Technical Skills:

-Previous experience repairing PCs with both hardware and software issues
-Experience using and editing the Windows registry
-Experience with standard tools such as msconfig, msinfo32, device manager, disk cleanup, defrag, chkdsk, Autoruns, HijackThis, Spybot, AdAware, Windows Defender, and others
-Command line (DOS, Linux, etc.) familiarity including the use of batch/script files
-Basic networking (TCP/IP Addressing, DHCP, DNS, joining wireless networks, etc.)
-Mid to Expert knowledge of Windows XP & Vista
-Exposure to older operating systems (Win9X, Windows 2000)
-Entry Level familiarity (very basic) with Server 2003 & Server 2008
-Knowledge of hardware compatibilities and incompatibilities as related to building or upgrading RAM, hard drive, processor, etc. in desktop and laptop systems
-Understanding of the operating system boot process and the ability to narrow down the likely cause of computer issues
-Ability to actually FIX technical operating system issues without the need to format & re-install
-Previous experience taking apart laptops
-Knowledge of the way in which viruses, spyware, and/or rootkits work and how to get rid of them


-A+ Certification
-Net+ Certification
-Microsoft OS Certifications or classes attended
-Previous experience with advanced level operating system troubleshooting
-Previous phone and/or remote technician experience
-Previous experience working in a computer store
-Previous experience handing cash and dealing with day-to-day store procedures such as opening, closing, inventory, shipping/receiving
-Previous experience in a fast paced IT environment
-Previous experience providing support to business clients
-Ability to work late some nights and or overnight with no more than 24 hours advance notice

-Mid-range knowledge of circuit board soldering
-Mid level networking familiarity
-Working knowledge of popular Linux distributions


Pay depends completely on experience and skills at the time of application and during your time on the job. However, the starting wage will generally be between 9 and 13 per hour.


Hours will be part time between the hours of 9am and 6pm M-F and 10am and 2pm on Saturdays.

Please be aware that empoloyees may be required to stay late or work late night and overnight hours with only 24 hours notice in rare instances.

The Process:
